Can we create a Young Friends of Ghyll Head?
Why?
Children and young people who visit Ghyll Head (GH) have a great time. The purpose of the YFoGH would be to :
• Enhance that experience by keeping them in touch with GH and what happens there;
• Keep memories of GH and friendships made there fresh;
• Share information on outdoor education and environmental issues
• Involve children and young people in the work of GH;
• Involve children and young people in the long-term survival and development of GH.
What would it be?
1. A proposed organisation for children and young people in Manchester schools.
2. We would need to seek extensive and detailed advice on child protection issues.
3. YFoGH would be essentially a digital organisation working around a website.
4. Funded by the Friends of Ghyll Head and initially supported by Manchester Education Partnership.
5. Organised and managed by FoGH and children and young people.
6. Membership would be automatic and free to all children and young people who visit Ghyll Head.
7. Membership is activated when people e-mail from home or school.
8. It would probably need a General Management Group;
• Ghyll Head,
• FoGH,
• Children/Young people,
• Teachers
9. It would also need a more active Technical Management Group:
• FoGH
• Web designer / manager
10. It could be organised in such a way that updating could be managed by a FoGH with support from Ghyll Head ICT Manager
11. The site could be entirely static i.e. people could visit and download things (photos, posters, cartoons, quizzes, games) and we could send stuff to e-mail addresses but we would not receive e-mails.
12. The site could be interactive in the sense that people could e-mail to it and get a reply. This clearly is a much bigger commitment than 11.
13. If the idea of a digital, web based YFoGH is worth consideration we could start a feasibility and cost study.
